UI Concept Mockups of Speed Dial and Commandlets

Here are some user interface and user experience ideas I've been toying with for a while. They are just concepts but I am already working on implementing them in Pandion. I just want to throw these out here to get some feedback.

Speed Dial for new converation

Several modern browsers have implemented this feature and it's time this useful pattern was applied to other applications.

Commands to create rich messages

Inspired by the Mozilla Labs project Ubiquity that's going into Firefox soon, and intrigued by the excitement people have shown when they discover "/me" third person messaging, I have been thinking of a good way to afford users more control over their messages. Ideally this should be extensible by writing simple commandlets in Javascript that handle specific keywords.

Hi,

Perhaps it'd be better to use OEMbed (www.oembed.org), and ^ or (preferred: and:) GTalk's interactive gadget API: http://googletalk.blogspot.com/2009/05/attention-nerds-new-gadgets-api-for.html

Perhaps you could look at the Meebo platform too.

There's a quick JS demo on top of the YUI editor made by me:

Thanks, oEmbed looks brilliant, definitely something I want to implement in Pandion. But it's not quite what I am describing in the mockup. It converts links (via wildcard match) into rich content. I'm thinking of an additional rich input method by issuing text based commands.

I've added you but if you don't receive the request just add me cbas@pandion.im (gApps) or cbas@pandion.im (Tigase).

Why would ^ or : be a better mode switch?
