Because of all the text visitors cannot scan the page easily. There was no download button to escape to. Lack of integration with other data sources like the forums or the screenshot gallery. It offers little value to a community project.
Finally this is changing...
Thanks to the ninja-like skills of my graphic designer friends at Directi the new Pandion website is set to look awesome.
- The page is structured for easy visual scanning so visitors will get a better idea of what Pandion is about.
- Development and support updates are shown in "feed" boxes, showing that the project is very much alive and inviting people to contribute to the Pandion community.
- And of course there's a big juicy download button on the first page, above the fold.
The new design is being created as a theme for Drupal. Soon after the publication of Pandion's new site the Drupal theme will be released as open source. I'm sure many projects or companies could use a theme structure like this.
